The Lost Horse Mine and Mill complex are part of the larger cultural landscape, representative of mining history in the area. Mining operations began at the site in 1893 and ran intermittently through 1936. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the 10-stamp mill at Lost Horse was moved to the site in 1895 to process ore from the adjacent mine. The current project will help preserve the historic structure for future generations. Visitors can help protect historic sites in the park like Lost Horse Mine by staying on maintained hiking trails and by leaving all objects as they are found.
