LOST HIKER IN BIG MORONGO CANYON PRESERVE DOES ALL THE RIGHT THINGS

A lost hiker was rescued while hiking in Big Morongo Canyon Preserve Tuesday. Just before 4 p.m., David Miller, 19, of Landers, called 911 to report that he had gotten lost. Miller said he had been hiking since about 10 a.m. Tuesday morning, but was not injured, was dressed appropriately, and had food and water to last him another day. He told dispatchers he was staying where he was because he had cell phone reception. The Sheriff’s helicopter, 40 King, found Miller and hoisted him out. David Miller refused medical aid; he was returned to his car in the Big Morongo Canyon parking lot to return home.
