A Los Angeles man who was found to be smuggling 11 people in his truck in Twentynine Palms was arrested early Tuesday morning (August 3) after a pursuit with deputies. According to Sheriff’s reports, Deputies attempted a traffic stop on a 2008 gray Chevrolet Tahoe near the intersection of 2 Mile Road and Encelia Avenue in Twentynine Palms for having no license plates. The driver, later identified as Santiago Cox, 33 of Los Angeles, failed to yield and led deputies on a pursuit for just over one-and-a-half miles. Cox eventually stopped the vehicle and was taken into custody. While clearing the vehicle, Deputies discovered that Cox was smuggling 11 people that the Sheriff’s department described as being from “south of the border.” Santiago Cox was arrested for investigation of evading a peace officer and was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail and later cited and released.
