A longtime Combat Center firefighter is retiring tomorrow, Friday, May 24. Managing editor Tami Roleff has more information about the career of Mark Aid…
After working for five years with the California Department of Forestry, Mark Aid started his career as a firefighter aboard the Combat Center as a 911 dispatcher, all while trying to get a degree in fire science. Aid was later promoted to fire prevention/inspector/firefighter. He has taught hundreds of students as a Red Cross CPR certified instructor, and served as a fire training instructor for the CERT program. He also served as the only paid on-call firefighter for Pioneertown for eight years. Aid, 69, is retiring tomorrow after 28 years of service. A luncheon to honor Mark Aid will be held 11 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, May 25, in the Desert View Conference Center in Building 1573 on board the Twentynine Palms Combat Center. Congratulations to Mark Aid on his retirement.
