LONG SESSION SET FOR MORONGO UNIFIED SCHOOL BOARD TONIGHT

The Morongo Unified School District Board of Education has a long meeting in store for it tonight. Reporter Dan Stork lists the agenda items…

The Morongo Unified School District Board of Education gets down to work early on June 2, with a three-topic workshop/study session at 4:15 p.m. The topics are the special education budget and plan, the Local Control Accountability Plan, and the overall budget for the coming year. There will be public hearings on all three topics during the regular meeting. At 6:30 p.m., the board goes into closed session to discuss employee discipline/dismissal/release, and to negotiate the contracts for Morongo Teachers Association and California School Employees Association, as well as give a performance evaluation for Superintendent Tom Baumgarten. Also during the regular 7 p.m. open session, retiring employees will be recognized, as will employees who have reached service milestones between 20 and 35 years. The long action agenda for the meeting has little that is likely to be controversial: variable term waiver requests for speech pathologists, a CAHSEE waiver, lodging and travel reimbursement, approval of the Early Start Parent Representative, a Transition Partnership contract correction, approval of Prop 30 funds for non-administrative expenditures, awarding of paving, flooring, and roofing bids, change order and completion notice for an expansion project at Yucca Valley High School, the board policy on attendance boundaries, and selection of the principals and athletic directors of the two larger high schools to be CIF representatives. The regular meeting will be held at Joshua Tree Elementary School starting at 7 p.m.
