John Stevens, a six-year resident of Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley, died Monday of complications from falling off a ladder; he was 69. He is survived by his wife, Germaine Cook, a brother and three nieces and nephews. John Stevens was a self-employed handyman and carpenter. He was active with the Joshua Tree Clean Team, Morongo Basin Amateur Radio Club, and Yucca Valley Clean Team. He also helped with large art installations at the Beatnik Café. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a date and time to be determined.
