LOCAL THEATRE NOMINATIONS PART 2: GROVE’S AND THOUGHT THEATRE

The Desert Theatre League honors both Hi- and Low-Desert theaters annually with its Desert Star Awards. Although this theatrical season ended prematurely, the majority of shows did go on and DTL judges attended enough to warrant issuing Desert Star Awards. In a two-part story we unpack the 50 nominations garnered by the high desert community theatres. Today, in part 2, we share the nods awarded to both Thought Theatre and The Groves Cabin Theatre. Here’s reporter Rebecca Havely…

Both The Groves Cabin Theatre and Thought Theatre each received six Star Award nominations each.

In the Comedy Category, Thought Theatre’s Miri Hunter is nominated for Outstanding Direction for “The Mexican Revelation.” Thought Theatres’ Ann Van Haney receives a nomination for her original writing of “The Mexican Revelation.”

In the drama categories Thought Theatre’s, “A Streetcar Named Desire” receives a nod to Lead Actress Katherine Wehler. The show’s hair and makeup by Miri Hunter is also up for an award.

Groves Cabin Theatre’s “Educating Rita” is up for Outstanding Production of a Comedy; Abe Daniels receives three nominations for Best Director as well as Outstanding Lighting and Set Design. Both Lead Actors in the two-character play are nominated, Kevin Hayles and Bianca Stoker.

The annual banquet event for the DTL Awards will not take place this year; however, the winners will be announced on October 4.
