After more than a year of bitter argument, local teachers finally have a new contract agreement. Reporter David Haldane has the story…
The Eagle has landed.
That’s the sentiment around the Morongo Unified School District today following the board of education’s unanimous ratification of a contract agreement with district teachers at a special meeting early Tuesday.
Under its terms—effective as soon as the county board of supervisors okays them—teachers will receive an 8.52% increase in salaries and benefits over the life of the contract, which expires in June. This will result in annual pay scales ranging from about $49,000 to $103,500.
The agreement comes after more than a year of acrimonious negotiations during which teachers worked without a contract.
Superintendent Tom Baumgarten expressed relief Tuesday that the rancor had ended. Finally, he said, everyone can get back to teaching.
