LOCAL STUDENTS NEARLY MATCH COUNTY IN STATE TESTING

The 2018 state test results for San Bernardino County were recently released, including the averages for Morongo Unified School District. Reporter Andrew Dieleman sat down with MUSD Superintendent Tom Baumgarten to review the results…
In an in-person interview with Z107.7, Morongo Unified School District Superintendent Tom Baumgarten explained that the 2018 test results for MUSD students nearly match San Bernardino County averages. According to Baumgarten, 26 percent of MUSD students met, or exceeded, math comprehension standards for 2018, compared to the county average of 28 percent (meaning that 74 percent did not meet the standards for math, although 29 percent “nearly met” the math standards).
For the English language comprehension, 39 percent of MUSD students met, or exceeded, the standards for 2018, compared to the county average of 41 percent. (Of the 61 percent who did not meet the standards, 25 percent “nearly met” the standards.)
The top school districts in San Bernardino County in both categories are Redlands (46 percent met or exceeded math standards and 60 percent met or exceeded English standards); Chino Valley (45 percent met or exceeded math standards and 58 percent met or exceeded English standards); and Silver Valley (39 percent met or exceeded math standards and 53 percent met or exceeded English standards).
Baumgarten stated that there are always improvements that can be made throughout the district, but he is encouraged by the continued efforts put forth by MUSD students and teachers.
