LOCAL STORM SPOTTERS SOUGHT BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE

If your secret dream is to be a storm spotter, here’s your chance. Reporter David Haldane has the details…
Does severe weather make your heart beat faster? Do you get an adrenalin rush at the first sign of hail, thunder, wind or flood? If so, the town of Yucca Valley has a job for you: severe weather and storm spotter for the National Weather Service.
You won’t get paid. What you will get is a chance to help forecasters issue weather warnings by providing real-time reports when conditions get bad. You can learn how do it at a training session set for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, in the Cholla Room of the Yucca Valley Community Center, 57090 Twentynine Palms Highway.
For more information, check out the weather service’s regional website at www.weather.gov/lasvegas or call its Las Vegas office at 702-263-9744.
