The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan varsity basketball team fell to a hot-shooting Temescal Canyon squad, 66-46, last night in the West Valley Mustang Classic tournament in Hemet.
Coach Jess Geeson said Sophomore Sara Mills led the Yucca girls with 16 points while senior Angie Reutgen and freshman Chloe McNellie each chipped in 10 points. The Lady Trojans play for seventh place in the 16-team tournament tonight at 6 p.m. against Redlands East Valley High School.
The Twentynine Palms girls’ basketball team lost a well-played game to Valley View High School from Moreno Valley last night in the semifinals of the West Valley Tip-Off Classic, 52-48. They will play Great Oak High School tonight in the third-place game.
Standouts in the game were Kate Bobadilla with 19 points, five steals; Taylor Scamman with 13 points and 13 rebounds; and Gabby Mackall with seven points and 11 rebounds.
The Twentynine Palms High School boys’ soccer team traveled to Linfield Christian to take on the host team Lions in their second game of the Linfield Soccer Tournament on Thursday. The Wildcats recorded their fourth win of the season to improve to four wins and no losses.
The entire team played great team defense and allowed no uncontested shots to Linfield shooters. Junior Juan Duran recorded seven saves to bolster the defense. Junior captain Melvin Ballinas scored his third goal of the season on an assist from freshman Marcus Delacruz in the second half. The final score was again 1-0.
The team continues play on Saturday, December 1, in Temecula against California Military Institute and Santa Rosa Academy, with kickoffs at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.
The Copper Mountain College Women’s Fighting Cacti basketball team will travel away to Victorville to participate in the Victor Valley College tournament today and tomorrow.
In high school sports today, the Yucca Valley High School boys’ basketball team will travel away to Big Bear. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.
The Joshua Springs girls’ basketball game for tonight has been cancelled.
The Joshua Springs boys game against their "old rival," Desert Christian Academy, will start at 5 p.m. in the Thunderdome at Joshua Springs, 57373 Joshua Lane.
