About 60 students from Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms High Schools visited Sheriff’s headquarters to study crime scene investigations. The students learned how to use math from their geometry and pre-calculus classes to make sense of crime scenes. They saw mock crime scene scenarios and applied what they learned in a “real world” setting of law enforcement. The purpose of the program was to expose students to a variety of career paths in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, in the hopes the students would pursue a career path in one of the STEM disciplines. Mariah Muchtar, a senior at Yucca Valley High School, said the day was an “eye-opening experience” that made her “look up to all these women who do all this hard work.”
