With the heat and dryness comes heightened fire danger in our desert. Managing editor Tami Roleff says local firefighters want you to create a defensible space around your homeā¦
Fire Captain Rick Denison said county firefighters will be going to areas in the Morongo Basin that are at high risk for fires and talking with residents about how to protect their homes against the risk of wildfires. “That means to clear property of brush and tall grass; de-limb trees up to six feet; get them away from the structure, get them away from overhanging the structure, away from the chimney, things like that.” Denison stressed the firefighters were doing this as a public service to residents. “There’s no enforcement, just recommendations. We’ll Come out and help you come up with a plan to make your home more defensible, and there’s no fee for it either.” He added that firefighters are willing to help make any home more defensible against fires. “Anyone in the Morongo Basin, if you have any questions, give the firefighters a call at their local station; we’re in the phone book.”
