Firefighters from Yucca Valley were sent to help fight a fire in Ventura County early Friday morning. About 4 a.m., a brush engine, with a fire captain, engineer, and firefighter joined more than 900 other firefighters at the Spring Fire, which is at 10,000 acres and growing. The fire is threatening neighborhoods in Newbury Park, Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, and Point Mugu, among others. A brush fire engine is geared for fighting wildlands types of fires. Its water hoses are smaller in diameter, but are longer, so that they can reach 3,000 to 4,000 feet. In addition, the brush fire engine has the tools needed to fight wildfires and cut brush, such as chain saws, shovels, picks, and axes. It’s anticipated that even more crews from all over the state—and possibly engines from Yucca Mesa and Joshua Tree—will join the firefighters at the Spring fire.
