LOCAL DEPUTY HONORED WITH MEDAL OF VALOR

A Morongo Basin Sheriff’s deputy was recently honored with the Sheriff’s Department Medal of Valor. On January 9, 2019, Deputy Jimmy Delgado was called to a home in Yucca Valley by a woman who said that a family member said he was going to kill himself. The man, who had a gun, was drunk and had taken an unknown amount of prescription pills. The woman had locked herself and her 4-year-old and 19-year-old children in the bathroom. When Delgado arrived, he quickly evacuated the woman and her children and then tried to talk to the man to ensure he had not harmed himself. Several minutes passed with no response, until gunfire erupted from the back of the home. The man had shot at Delgado through the wall, and a bullet was later recovered near where Delgado had been standing. Additional deputies arrived and the man came out of the house was taken into custody. Deputy Jimmy Delgado was honored for his heroic and selfless actions that saved the lives of the family.
