Two local Sheriff’s deputies were lauded by the organization Mothers against Drunk Drivers, MADD, for their efforts in enforcing the DUI laws. Deputy Sumpter and Deputy Lopez achieved the MADD award for Driving Under the Influence arrests. Deputy Sumpter had 44 DUI arrests and Deputy Lopez had 48 DUI arrests this year. The deputies are assigned to traffic enforcement to the City of 29 Palms and Town of Yucca Valley. Sheriff’s Captain Lucas Niles said “We are proud of these deputies, DUI arrests save lives and keep the roads safer in the Morongo Basin.”
