A Morongo Basin CHP officer is receiving an award today in Sacramento from the California Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Officer Jake Griffith of Yucca Valley is being honored with the MADD California Hero Award for his work as a drug recognition expert. As a drug recognition expert, Griffith is trained to recognize and identify impairment in drivers under the influence of drugs other than—or in addition to—alcohol. Griffith was nominated by the California Highway Patrol’s Driving Impaired Unit because the number of his evaluations of impaired drivers is in the top five in the state of California.
