Containment of the Line Fire is increasing and growth has slowed, but smoke still hangs in the air in the Morongo Basin.
As of last night (September 11), the Line Fire is now 18% contained, and has spread to 36,481 acres, a growth of less than 2,000 acres in twenty-four hours.
Smoke from the fire continues to make its way across the hi-desert, and though our community is currently under no threat from the fire, poor air quality conditions have led to advisories for people with sensitivities and children to stay indoors.
For the second day in a row, Morongo Unified School District has canceled classes for Thursday, September 12, on account of air quality conditions. The MUSD made the announcement on Wednesday night (September 11) just after 9 p.m.
Coach Jeremy Johnson of the Yucca Valley High School Trojans football teams announced the cancellation of this week’s games, saying, “Due to the safety concerns of our players and the fact that we have not been able to practice, the football game with Granite Hills has been canceled.”
