LIGHTNING SPARKED FIRE IN SUNFAIR DRY LAKE

It took just about an hour for San Bernardino County and Bureau of Land Management Firefighters to stop a lightning fueled wildfire on the Sunfair Dry Lake in Joshua Tree today (Tuesday, August 18, 2020. County Battalion Chief Mike Mclintock said several lightning strikes hit the area at about 1:00pm. The fire, dubbed the Cascade Fire at Cascade and Fourth street started at 5 acres and quickly burned across moderate low fuel in the dry lake bed area to about 100-150 acres. Forward progress of the fire was stopped at about 1:45 p.m. The threat to BLM land was mitigated and there was no threat to structures and no injuries. Crews will remain on scene for 3-4 hours for mop-up.
