With more knowledge, practical application, and a vigilant eye, we may be able to save the California Desert Tortoise without too much harm to our feathered friends. So says Allison Fedrick, a conservation outreach coordinator for The Living Desert Zoo & Gardens in Palm Desert.

Fedrick will be a at the Old Schoolhouse Museum on National Park Drive in Twentynine Palms Friday, December 13 at 7 p.m. to talk about humane raven mitigation efforts and the critical circumstances so many desert species are facing due to habitat loss, disease, and predation. Sponsored by the Desert Institute at Joshua Tree National Park and the Twentynine Palms Historical Society, this lecture is open to the public; admission is $5 per person at the door.
