Sid Burks will talk about aviation, military history, General George S. Patton and local desert history during the Morongo Basin Historical Society’s second Wednesday lecture, set for February 12. He’ll talk about the role that airmen, aircraft, and airports played in the two-year history of Patton’s Desert Training Center, located east of Twentynine Palms. Learn how airpower at the training center reflected the evolving mission of the Army Air corps during World War II that led to the creation of the U.S. Air Force. The lecture is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Hi-Desert Nature Museum in Yucca Valley. Admission is a $5 donation.
