Photos of the American Southwest and a classic book of essays about the desert will be the focus of the Second Friday Lecture series by the Twentynine Palms Historical Society. Mary Austin’s book, “The Land of Little Rain” was published in 1903 and describes the people who lived in the desert and its special beauty. Walter Feller has spent years photographing the Mojave Desert, and his photos will pair with Austin’s book. The lecture will be held 7 p.m. Friday, October 14, at the Old Schoolhouse Museum on National Park Drive in Twentynine Palms. Admission is $5.
