Joe Zarki and Marilyn Lutz began studying the roughly 90 species of butterflies around our Morongo Basin in 1995. The couple will share what they’ve learned with you at an upcoming program. Reporter Mike Lipsitz has your invitation…

“Better Know A Butterfly” is the title of this month’s second Wednesday lecture series at the Hi-Desert Nature Museum in the Yucca Valley Community Center Complex. Author and former Joshua Tree National Park Ranger Joe Zarki, and Marilyn Lutz, editor for the Southern California region of the North American Butterfly Association’s Butterfly Count Program will share how to identify some of our local butterflies and how to attract these delicate desert dwellers to your property. Signed copies of Zarki’s book, “Images of America: Joshua Tree National Park,” will be available for purchase after the program. The 5:30 p.m. presentation is sponsored by the Morongo Basin Historical Society. A $5 donation is requested.
