Sometimes simple, everyday items have special meanings because of who gave them to us or because of how they were used in the past. At Joshua Tree National Park artifacts from historic and prehistoric civilizations are important clues to the rich cultures and lifestyles of the people who have lived here in the past. They are special to the people whose ancestors left them just like a scrapbook or locket might be. It can be very interesting to come across rock art, pottery shards, or even rusty tin cans in the park. Please help us protect these irreplaceable resources by leaving them where you find them and reporting sightings to park rangers.
