LEARN “THE HISTORY OF WATER IN THE MORONGO BASIN”

“History of Water in the Morongo Basin- Perspectives on an Underappreciated Resource,” that’s the title of an upcoming lecture sponsored by The Desert Institute. Here’s reporter Mike Lipsitz to tell us how to get in on the subject…

Marina West, General Manager at the Bighorn-Desert View Water Agency will relate her experiences as a water manager. West holds a master’s degree in Public Administration and is a professional geologist certified in water distribution and treatment. West is concerned that, while many of us are breathing easier now that the most recent severe drought is over, she knows it’s only a matter of time before another drought brings to the forefront a number of difficult economic and policy issues that could drastically impact the future of our state. This lecture will be held at the Old Schoolhouse Museum, 6760 National Park Drive in Twentynine Palms, on Friday, March 13, at 7 p.m. The public is invited; $5 per person will be collected at the door. Part of the Old Schoolhouse lecture series, the “History of Water in the Morongo Basin- Perspectives on an Underappreciated Resource” is sponsored by the Desert Institute at Joshua Tree National Park and the Twentynine Palms Historical Society.

There is an optional dinner with the speaker at 5 p.m. at the 29 Palms Inn, reservations are limited and attendees are responsible for their own meal. If interested in dinner please RSVP to 760-367-5537 before Wednesday, March 11.
