A fascinating lecture on an ancient Native American craft will be given at the Hi-Desert Nature Museum in Yucca Valley tonight. Reporter Cassie Zimarik invites you to learn about flint knapping…
As part of the Morongo Basin Historical Society’s Second Wednesday Lecture Series, Tony Soares, a flint knapper, potter, and artist, will be demonstrating the art of flint knapping, as well as discussing the history behind it. The ancient method involves taking a chunk of basalt and chipping it down from a block and turning it into a projectile point that is similar to ones used for tools and hunting by Native Americans. Due to the demonstration being held outside in the Hi-Desert Museum courtyard, please bring your own folding chair. It all happens on May 13 at 5:30 p.m. and ends at 6:45 p.m. for a small donation of $5.
