San Bernardino County reported one death and 88 new cases of the coronavirus Wednesday (May 20). Since March 15, 158 county residents have died from COVID-19, according to the county’s online dashboard. Confirmed cases grew to 3,795. In the county of 2.1 million residents, 43,461 have been tested, of which 8.7 percent were positive through Wednesday, according to the county’s data. Testing increased by 5.6 percent since Tuesday. Here in the Morongo Basin the number of confirmed cases are unchanged with 42 cases and three deaths
The time it took for the virus to double in the community was 14.3 days.
The data also show available hospital beds and ventilators. The number of hospitalized COVID-19 positive patients, 129, was up 5.7 percent from 122 the day before. While the number in intensive care units, 52, was down 3.7 percent from 54 the day before, the data show.
At least 533 cases and 66 deaths are associated with healthcare facilities, including nursing homes, the dashboard shows. Of those who have died, five were inmates at the California Institution for Men in Chino, which had 424 confirmed cases Wednesday. There were 48 positive cases associated with the California Institution for Women in Chino.
Most of the confirmed cases, 732, are among residents between 50 and 59 years old, while 653 were 40 to 49 years old, 650 were 30 to 39 years old, 553 were 60 to 69 years old and 533 were older than 70. Most of those who have died, 92, were older than 70, while 38 were 60 to 69 years old, according to the county.
