There were no new deaths from the coronavirus reported in San Bernardino County on Sunday (May 31), but officials identified 46 new cases. The number of total cases identified so far is 5,246. The San Bernardino County death toll from the coronavirus remained at 204 Sunday. Here in the Morongo Basin, we have 49 confirmed cases: Yucca Valley with 17; Joshua Tree at 15; Twentynine Palms with 10; and Morongo Valley at seven.
In the county of 2.1 million residents, 61,231 people have been tested for the disease, of which 8.7 percent were positive. The time it takes for the number of confirmed cases in the county to double is 15.6 days, compared to 10.4 days at the beginning of May—a sign that the virus is spreading less quickly over time. Fifty-four confirmed coronavirus patients are in intensive care, along with other 19 suspected coronavirus cases. There were 339 other patients using ICU beds, leaving 65 percent of beds available.
