Today is the deadline to apply for the job of Third District County Supervisor. The position is officially empty as of today as former Supervisor James Ramos is taking his oath of office for state assembly in Sacramento. At tomorrow’s 10 a.m. Board of Supervisors meeting in San Bernardino, the board is expected to hear from the county clerk the number of qualified applications received and determine the process by which Ramos’ replacement will be selected. At that time the board is also likely to specify the date for public interviews and their final selection. There is pressure to act rapidly as state law requires the board to fill the vacancy within 30 days or January 2. Should the board fail that requirement, then responsibility for filling the seat goes to the governor.
Tomorrow’s meeting will not be broadcast to the County Government Center on White Feather Road in Joshua Tree; there will be no live video link.
