LANDERS MAN STRUCK AND KILLED BY SEMI IN LANDERS TUESDAY NIGHT

A 45-year-old Landers man was killed last night when he was hit by a semi-truck as he was crossing Highway 247 in Landers. According to CHP Officer K. Casserly, about 9:40 p.m., Solomon Kings was crossing Highway 247 just north of Sunnyslope Drive, between Linn Road and Reche Road. The CHP report states that Kings was wearing dark colored clothing and was in the northbound lane of the highway, walking eastbound, when he was hit by a white 1999 Kenworth semi-truck, driven by Jose Garcia, 38, of Mexicali. According to the CHP, the truck was traveling between 55 and 60 miles per hour at the time of impact. Solomon Kings was pronounced deceased at 10:33 p.m. Both lanes of Highway 247 were closed for about an hour during the investigation.
