LANDERS MAN ACCUSED OF ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING

A Landers man was arrested Monday, accused of trying to forcing his estranged wife to leave her house against her will. Deputies were called to a home near Artesia Road and Happy Trail in Landers about 7 p.m. The caller said that Christian Carpenter, 30, had broken the gate to get onto the property and was arguing with his estranged wife. He then grabbed her in a bear hug from behind and tried to carry her off the property to his vehicle. The woman struggled and her mother also intervened, and the victim was able to escape. They said that Carpenter then fled and went to his home in the 2600 block of Kickapoo Trail, where he was located by deputies shortly before 10:30 p.m. Christian Carpenter was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $250,000.
