A Landers man who was released on his own recognizance following his arrest for the death of his stepson from heatstroke last summer, and then became a fugitive, is back in custody. Paul Warfox, 43, told Sheriff’s detectives that, last July, he had taken three of his stepchildren out into the desert in Johnson Valley to collect firewood. The temperature that day was said to be 113 degrees. Sometime during the day; Dylin, one of the children, collapsed and Warfox said he carried him back to the abandoned cabin where the family was squatting. He then claimed the entire family took a nap for six hours. When they woke up, they noticed that Dylin seemed to be worse, and so they poured water on him to cool him down before calling for help. Dylin died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Paul Warfox, and Dylin’s mother, Misty Biscamp Warfox, 37, were arrested for investigation of child cruelty resulting in Dylin’s death and their remaining children were taken from them. Misty has a previous conviction for misdemeanor child abuse and was required to take a year of child abuse prevention classes. Paul and Misty Warfox made several court appearances last year, but missed their August 28 hearing and became fugitives. On April 21, Paul Warfox was arrested in the city of Azusa, accused of burglary. He was turned over to San Bernardino Sheriff’s deputies on May 20 and, on May 29, Judge Rodney Cortez imposed a $1 million bail and ordered that Warfox could only be released if the full cash amount was posted. Paul Warfox’s next court appearance is June 20. Misty Warfox is still considered a fugitive.
