Landers Clean-up hauls off tons of tires, mountains of mattresses and gobs of garbage

Speaking of cleanups – there have been multiple community cleanup days around the hi-dez as spring cleaning is in full effect. Many of these are co-sponsored by San Bernardino County such as the one in Landers that took place on March 29th.

Landers Homestead Valley Association president Mike Lipsitz says that the cleanup was a hufe success, with residents bringing out old water heaters, mattresses, and tires that numbered in the hundreds. Four giant trailers of over 1300 used tires (both on the rim and off) were hauled away during the cleanup, many of them found tossed in washes or out in OHV areas. Tires cost extra at the Landers Landfill, which is the suspected reason you see so many of them dumped in the desert and littered around Landers.

The tires are making their way to Mitsubishi where they are used in their kilns. If you have big bulky trash items that you can’t get to the Landfill, don’t dump it! Community clean-ups have been happening every few weekends here in the Morongo Basin and we’ll let you know about them as soon as they come up.

If you pay a handyperson to haul your trash to the dump – don’t be duped by a lazy or unscupruplous dumper! Get receipts so you know your junk hasn’t become somebody else’s problem.
