LANDERS AREA WATER RECHARGE FACILITY CELEBRATED

State water project water is now flowing into the aquifers under the Landers area. Reporter Mike Lipsitz was at a ceremony yesterday celebrating the important regional infrastructure improvement and files this report…
About 50 of the area’s leaders in water management gathered last night at the Rieman home in Flamingo Heights. The property offers a vantage point overlooking the expansive Pipes Wash, and, in the distance, a non-descript concrete culvert. It is the only part of the Ames/Reche Groundwater Recharge Project visible above ground. The gathering was to celebrate completion of the recharge project which will receive its first delivery of state water project water next month. Describing the project as “the fulfillment of a generational promise,” Bighorn Desert View Water Agency Board President Mike McBride described the $1.3 million project as a collaborative effort between Bighorn, Mojave Water Agency, Hi-Desert Water District, and county special districts. Pushed by Bighorn-Desert View, the facility enables use of the storage capacity available in the aquifer below the wash, and enhances the regional water supply for the future.
