In what is being called the final step in the formal transfer of Landers area County Special Districts water service to Bighorn Desert View Water agency, petitions were mailed out last week. Reporter Mike Lipsitz explains what they mean…
Last week, people in Landers who receive water service from County Special Districts began receiving petitions from the Local Agency Formation Commission looking for those opposing the transfer of water service to Bighorn-Desert View Water Agency. The petitions represent the final step in what has been a year’s long grass-roots process in favor of Bighorn providing service for all of Landers. Residents in favor of the transparency, local service and lower rates offered by Bighorn-Desert View should ignore the petitions. There are those who don’t like change and for them, the move may not be welcome; those who wish to maintain county service will want to sign and return their petition before the final LAFCO hearing set for 1 p.m. March 26 at the LAFCO office in San Bernardino. With little to no opposition up to this point, the annexation appears to be all but a done deal with Bighorn-Desert View expected to open the valves at midnight on July 1.
