The Twentynine Palms High School softball team played in the Palm Springs Invitational Tournament Friday and Saturday and won three of the four games for first place in the eight-team bracket. The LadyCats beat Desert Christian Academy 28-0; Indio 7-2; and San Bernardino 4-0. The girls lost to Coachella Valley 7-5.
Senior team captain Katie Steffins brought home first tournament team honors with two shut-outs and five hits and five runs batted in.
Madison Carpenter had five hits and eight RBIs, including a monster over-the-fence home run in the championship game.
Jaelyn Hannan had five hits and three RBIs and scored six runs. Jaelyn also had Anthem Park home run.
The leadoff hitter May Chacon had five hits and scored nine runs on the weekend.
Coach Dan Mintz said, “We are off to a good start of the season and I am looking forward to a great season for our softball team.”
