LADY TROJAN VOLLEYBALL TEAMS DEFEAT DESERT HOT SPRINGS

The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan volleyball team defeated Desert Hot Springs in three sets, with a score of 25-6, 25-19, and 27-25.

The Trojans came out strong in sets one and two and battled through some unforced errors in set three. Coach Tammy Rhodes said, “I am really proud of how they re-focused and battled through a deficit for  most of set three before finally winning the match.”

Rhodes added that quarterback Annie Hilderbrand dished out amazing sets all night with a season high of 36 assists. Outside hitter Loryn Brimhall had eight kills, 19 digs, and was 19 for 19 behind the serving line.

Freshman Stacie Alexander contributed 15 kills, nine digs, and also served 12 for 12 with five ace serves.

Opposite hitter Haley Griswold contributed six kills and three blocks, and is constantly improving as a force at the net.

The Lady Trojans welcomed back junior Katie Alexander, who has been out on injuries for the entire season. Alexander had no hitting errors tonight and contributed four kills and six digs to tonight’s victory.

Defensively, libero Ella Villamero contributed 25 digs, and was almost perfect behind the serving line with 19 for 20 serves and three aces.

Rhodes said, “If there is one thing I know about my team, they are fighters. We are continually getting better every day. I’m so proud of them.”

The Yucca Valley High School junior varsity volleyball team extended its winning streak on Tuesday, defeating the Desert Hot Springs Eagles in two sets, 25-15 and 25-18. 

Junior Captain Amanda Cruz led the team in serving aces with five, and Paige Van Hulten, Brianna Etter, and Carly Brimhall contributed one each. 

In the second match, Desert Hot Springs took the lead early, but the Trojans fought back to tie the score 9-9. Junior Briana Adams then stepped up to the service line and helped propel the team to an eight-point lead, 17-9. The Trojans continued to put pressure on the Eagles and ended up winning the match 25-18. 

Coach Celeste Hilderbrand said, “It was truly a team effort, with every athlete contributing on the court for the win.”

The junior varsity Trojans travel to Cathedral City on Thursday for a 3:15 p.m. match.
