Coach Jolene Pessa said Yucca Valley High School girls’ varsity soccer is off to a great start. Varsity brought home a win, 3-0, against Coachella Valley High School, securing their position in fourth place.

Pessa said “The girls really stepped up their game to another level this evening; as a team, they exhibited great ball control and teamwork. Backing down was not an option today. They maintained high pressure throughout the entirety of the game which gave them the edge needed to dominate the game this evening.” Goals were made by Alize Segura, Haley McGinnis, and Faith Palmer, with assists by Rylee Nutter and Nicole Powell.

Junior varsity held strong the majority of the game with a score of 1-1 going well into the second half. Coachella wasn’t able to get a second goal until late in the second half, and the Yucca Valley girls lost, 2-1. The sole goal was scored by Amanda Cruz. Their next game will be against Banning High School January 15.
