The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan basketball team opened up its 2019-20 season with a 47-41 win over Hillcrest Prep of Riverside in a opening round game of the Riverside Poly High School Raincross Tournament last night.
Coach Jess Geeson said junior Sara Mills led the squad with 15 points. She was followed in the scorebook by senior Coy Smith with 11 points and freshman Malia Ulery with six points. Sophomore Chloe McNellie added five points and sophomore Maliyah Rodriguez knocked down two clutch free throws with 11 seconds left in the game to seal the win.
The team next plays Wednesday afternoon against Vista Del Lago High School from Moreno Valley in their second game of the tournament.
