Playing for the sole possession of first place in the Desert Valley League the Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan basketball rallied from a 10 point second-half deficit to score a hard-fought 61-57 victory over the Twentynine Palms High School Lady Cats Wednesday (January 12) night in Trojan Gym.
Trailing 33-38 to start the fourth quarter the Lady Trojans fell behind 43-33 before mounting their comeback by outscoring the Lady Cats 28-17 in the final period.
Sophomore Cadence Tarrant was dominant for the Lady Trojans scoring 28 points, pulling down 16 rebounds, and blocking 6 shots. Junior Malia Ulery bounced back from a slow start to post 13 points, getting 9 of them in the final quarter. Senior Maliah Rodriguez was also clutch netting 11 points and fellow senior Heather Hiday chipped in 9 points to round out the scoring.
With the win, the ladies move their league record to 6-0 and overall record to 11-3. The team returns to the court next Wednesday (January 19) at home against Desert Mirage. The game this Friday (January 14) at Desert Hot Springs has been postponed due to COVID issues within the Lady Eagle program.
