The Yucca Valley Lady Trojan basketball team finished its undefeated Desert Valley League season with a 65-38 win over the Indio Rajahs on Senior Night Thursday evening in Trojan Gym.
Coach Jess Geeson said the Yucca Valley girls celebrated their three seniors—Coy Smith, Makayla Geeson and Shakira Featherstone-Snider—during halftime ceremonies in which they led the game 35-16.
In the third quarter the Lady Trojans pushed their lead to 28 points and cruised to the finish as they improved their overall record to 24-4 and a perfect 14-0 in league.
Junior Sara Mills led the team with 17 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Chloe McNellie knocked down three 3-point baskets on her way to a 15-point game. Senior Makayla Geeson hit two 3-point shots and finished with 10 points, while senior Coy Smith played a strong game with nine points, eight rebounds and six steals. Sophomore Maliah Rodriguez chipped in six points and four assists.
The team now waits for the CIF playoff bracket to be released on Sunday to find out who they play when the playoffs begin. The Lady Trojans finished the regular season ranked #4 in the CIF Division 3A coaches’ poll and will host a first-round game on Thursday, February 13.
