LADY TROJAN BASKETBALL ENDS QUEST FOR CHAMPIONSHIP

The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojans’ quest for a CIF Division 3AA championship came to an end Wednesday night (February 23) in Trojan Gym as the team fell to Cerritos 64-51 in a playoff semifinal game.

Trailing 38-30 at halftime the Lady Trojans struggled to score in the third quarter only putting up 3 points as Cerritos built a 51-33 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Lady Trojans rallied to within 11 points in the fourth quarter but could get no closer as the Dons advanced to the championship game Saturday night.

Junior Malia Ulery was nearly unstoppable scoring a career-high 35 points including seven 3 point baskets. Sophomore Cadence Tarrant and junior Jaylie Schreiber each added 5 points. Senior Heather Hiday netted 4 points despite being limited with foul trouble and junior Ashley Lowe hit 2 free throws for her 2 points.

The team now waits for the CIF State playoff bracket to be released Sunday (February 27). The first round of the State tournament begins Tuesday (March 1).
