The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan basketball team came up just a little short losing 52-46 to the Imperial High School Tigers Tuesday (March 8) night in the CIF State Division 4 Regional Final in Trojan Gym.
After falling behind 31-22 at halftime the Lady Trojans rallied in the third quarter outscoring the Tigers 13-6. The Lady Trojans tied the game at 37-37 with 7:27 left in the game but could never overtake the Tigers who hit four consecutive free throws with less than a minute remaining to seal the win.
Sophomore Cadence Tarrant scored a game-high 17 points while nabbing 11 rebounds. Senior Heather Hiday posted 10 points and 6 rebounds while junior Malia Ulery added 9 points. Senior Maliah Rodriguez hit for 6 points while holding Imperial’s leading scorer to 8 points. Juniors Ashley Lowe and Jaylie Schreiber each notched 2 points to complete the scoring.
The Lady Trojans end their season with a 21-8 overall record finishing with their third consecutive Desert Valley League championship. They also made it to the semifinals in the CIF Southern Section Division 3AA playoffs along with the CIF State Division 4 Regional Final, the second time in the history of Yucca Valley High School that the program has advanced that far.
