L.A. VANDAL, SHAMED ON SOCIAL MEDIA, APOLOGIZES FOR GIANT ROCK DESECRATION

Last week, Z107.7 News reported on recent desecration and wide-spread graffiti at Landers’ iconic Giant Rock. The story generated community outrage and a written confession from the perpetrator who calls himself “The Classy Vandal.” Reporter Mike Lipsitz brings us up to date…

Following the news report and accompanying photographs posted at Z1077FM.com, “The (so called) “Classy Vandal” apparently began to feel some heat. He wrote the following to Z107.7 under the same alias and using a non-traceable email account:“I offer my most humble apology to all I have offended in my painting of Giant Rock. I have never painted in nature before. This is my first and last time. … I should not have touched it.  … I will be doing community service in Joshua Tree, and am willing to make a donation to the pressure washing of the rock … If we can stop with the death threats and calls for my bodily harm that would be fantastic. I made a mistake, and am sincerely sorry. I am doing my best to make it right.”
Attempts to contact the “Classy Vandal” for specifics on his community service and other claims have gone unanswered. As to whether or not this vandal has any real class remains to be seen.

Subject: Giant Rock

I offer my most humble apology to all I have offended in my painting of Giant Rock. I have never painted in nature before. This is my first and last time. The location is covered  with other “rock art” and, at the time, I thought I was contributing to the space like everyone else there had. I should not have touched it.

The piece has been gone over. I will be doing community service in Joshua Tree, and am willing to make a donation to the pressure washing of the rock as they have done in the past. These are my actions in hopes to rectify things.

If we can stop with the death threats and calls for my bodily harm that would be fantastic. I made a mistake, and am sincerely sorry. I am doing my best to make it right.

Once again,

my most humble apologies,

The Classy Vandal
