“KING OF THE HAMMERS” CO-FOUNDER ON Z107.7 TOMORROW

One of the co-founders of the King of the Hammers off-road race will be the guest on the Z107.7 Up Close Show Friday, January 23. Dave Cole, along with Jeff Knoll, started the rock-crawling and off-road race at Means Dry Lake in Johnson Valley with a dozen teams in 2007 for bragging rights. The off-road event has since evolved into an event with 400 teams which brings tens of thousands of spectators to the Morongo Basin. The King of the Hammers takes place during the first week of February. The recent proposed expansion of the Marine base in Twentynine Palms threatened the very existence of the race, which was saved with a compromise that closed the 100,000-acre recreation area to civilians for two months a year while Marines perform their exercises. Cole will be here Friday morning, starting at 10 a.m. to talk about the race and answer your questions on the Up Close Show.
