JURY SELECTION SET TO START TODAY FOR FORMER MARINE ACCUSED OF DOUBLE HOMICIDE

Jury selection has been postponed until Wednesday while the attorneys work out motions and other routine court matters.

Jury selection is set to start today for a former Twentynine Palms Marine who is accused of killing a mother and her daughter in Twentynine Palms in March 2017. Prosecutors say Rafael Aikens, now 24, shot and killed Christy McKissic, 32, and her mother Renee Metcalf, 62, in their home in the 7700 block of Bedouin Avenue just after midnight on March 24. Aikens has been held in the West Valley Detention Center on two charges of murder and discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury with his bail set at $3.5 million. Aikens was a machine gunner attached to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment aboard the Combat Center in Twentynine Palms at the time of the shootings.
