JURY RECOMMENDS DEATH SENTENCE FOR FORMER TWENTYNINE PALMS MARINE CONVICTED OF KILLING FIVE WOMEN

A jury recommended the death sentence yesterday for a former Twentynine Palms Marine who was convicted in May of killing five women in Southern California between 1986 and 1995. Andrew Urdiales, 53, was convicted last month of killing Robbin Brandley in Mission Viejo, Mary Ann Wells in San Diego, Julie McGhee in Cathedral City as well as Tammie Erwin and Denise Maney in Palm Springs. Urdiales was a Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton and Twentynine Palms at the time of the murders. He was also convicted in Chicago for killing three women there in 2002 and 2004. A judge will pronounce his sentence in October.
