JUNE IS DISASTER PREPAREDNESS MONTH, ARE YOU PREPARED?

With June being Disaster Preparedness Month, this is the perfect time to talk about how to be prepared for a disaster – be it an earthquake, a flash flood, or a pandemic. Many of us have learned this past year the types of items we need when we are ordered to shelter in place. We need food, water, medications, pet supplies and more. Cassidy Taylor has some tips about how to be prepared…

There are many resources for learning how to pack “go” bags and maintain supplies for your family or yourself. From FEMA to the Red Cross to the CDC, you can find all the info you need to stock up and be ready. A “good” emergency kit should include things like water, food, battery-powered or hand crank radios, a flashlight, batteries, a first aid kit, medication, and don’t forget supplies for your pets!

It is a good idea to keep a full kit at home, a kit at work that allows you to stay there at least 24 hours, and a kit in your car for emergencies. Also, keep your kits in cool, dry places, and re-evaluate your kit at least once a year to be sure that nothing is expired and it is appropriate for your family’s needs.
