JUNE IS DISASTER PREPAREDNESS MONTH: ARE YOU PREPARED?

With June being Disaster Preparedness Month, this is the perfect time to talk about how to be prepared for a disaster – be it an earthquake, a flash flood, or a pandemic. Many of us have learned these last few months the types of items we need when we are ordered to shelter in place. We need food, water, medications, pet supplies and more. Managing editor Tami Roleff has some tips about how to be prepared, both physically and mentally…

There are many resources for learning how to pack “go” bags and maintain supplies for your family or yourself. From FEMA to the Red Cross to the CDC, you can find all the info you need to stock up and be ready. One of the unforeseen aspects of the unexpected shelter orders was the affect this had on mental health. With many people living alone and unable to leave their homes, loneliness became extremely hard for many. It also hit caregivers very hard as they were trying to care for loved ones with dementia or Alzheimer’s who didn’t understand why they couldn’t leave the house.

Depression and anxiety have hit many very hard, however you are not alone and there are people to help. With Mental Health Awareness Month just ending in May there are resources for you should you need to talk to someone.

Though the world can be a scary place, remember that you are not alone. If you need help you can call Reach Out Morongo Basin at 760-361-1410 or 760-369-8671 and they will be there for you. We as a community can get through this together. Links are available below.
