A San Bernardino County judge denied an injunction Friday that had been filed Thursday to halt the expansion of Fire Protection Zone-5. The injunction was filed by the non-profit Red Brennan Group, which says the expansion is “illegal, unfair, and symptomatic of the county’s lack of respect for its citizens that own property” in the county. The Red Brennan Group proposes that the fee should be a sliding scale fee that is based on the value and use of each property, so that a vacant parcel would not pay as much in a fire fee as a developed parcel. Red Brennan spokesman Tom Murphy said the group plans to go forward with a lawsuit to halt the county’s expansion, and he urges everyone to participate in the board of supervisors’ meeting Tuesday morning. The meeting, which starts at 10 a.m. will be streamed via a live video link at the government center in Joshua Tree.
